While I don't suppose any of you dear readers have perchance been pained at the paucity of Peerless P posts in recent weeks, please permit me to beg your pardon. I do have good excuses, which I can prove with pictures.
Tennis tournaments...
Graduations in Oklahoma...
...and Arizona
And of course, work.
That said, I will attempt to get back on a more consistent schedule but, summer being what it is, there are obligations which will limit me from time to time. Onward...
14 APR 44
When last we left Princeton she had just departed Majuro Lagoon with replenished stores and a New Task Group Commander. In the wee hours of the morning on April 14th, the Task Force was steering a base course of southwest and making 18 knots. Ship and Air Group training was conducted throughout the day, of both the air-to-air and air-to-ground variety, with USS Langley towing a spar for practice bombing runs. The day was mostly unremarkable, with a couple exceptions.
"At 1204 a fighter plane crashed into the barrier wires, carrying away all three barriers; suspended flight operations to make repairs, resuming at 1227."
The focus was not on the fighter squadron for long. After entering and clearing a brief rain squall, "at 1247 a torpedo plane crashed into barrier causing minor damage to plane; no personnel injuries."
"At 2400, changed to Zone Minus 11 Time, making tomorrow's date 16 April, 1944, East Longitude date."
If only we could all skip April 15th every year.
